South Lakeland District Council & Hyde Harrington: Emergency Accommodation

  • Howe Projects were the successful tenderer and contractor for the upgrade and refurbishment works with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) Emergency accommodation & contract administrator Hyde Harrington.
  • This was an enjoyable and challenging project whilst working within an environment where staff and clients populated the areas. The hostel remained open for the duration of the phased works over a 4 month period. We worked over various zones and works were phased to allow for residents to live in certain areas of the hostel.
  • The driving force was to upgrade nine bedrooms to install en-suite shower rooms and also improve common kitchen and disabled showering and toilet facilities.
  • There were some small structural works to enable door openings to be enlarged to accommodate wheel chair access. The kitchen was also design with variable height rise and fall sink and cooking hobs to accommodate for access and use by wheelchair users.
  • Staff and residents were cooperative and understanding that whilst there was some minor disruption and noise during construction that we were able to deliver a lovely finish and a much improved living environment.
